I solved a few Studio 9 problems by updating my capture card drivers

  3. If you're talking about capturing DV from FireWire, try WinDV. Even WMM can do it. Then just import the resulting file to your preferred editor.

    What is your capture device?
are you using a camcorder as pass-thru, or an external Dazzle device?

Studio sometimes has trouble recognizing external devices, especially USB --
In Capture Setup window, you should be able to see the device or camcorder in the "Source" drop-down list. If you don't see it in the list, you might have to re-install drivers, such a pain.
Studio 9 web-board has lots of threads discussing this kind of problem.
Plus, Studio seems to be designed to only support its own Dazzle devices, it is a gamble whether it will recognize a device from some other manufacturer.

Also, a passing thought -- I use a USB device, and had problems when I had too many other usb devices active. I had to dis-connect my dvd burner and my external hard-drive for Studio to be able to see my DVC-90 and to capture.

As bobkart suggests, just use another application to capture, and then load that captured video into Studio 9 for easy editing. You don't HAVE to capture and edit all in one place.
( I use VirtualDubMod for capturing, and sometimes still use Studio 9 for editing, although aviSynth scripts are occupying my attention now.)

Could you describe your problem in more detail ---

In Studio 9, when you go into the Capture Settings window, do you see your camcorder in the Source list?

Does Studio show any error message, such as that it "failed to initialize" the device?

Or is it that you can select the camera as the Source, but the capture preview window is blank?

Since you CAN capture with other programs, it does sound like you might need to re-install the Pinnacle drivers.
I would recommend you to visit the Studio 9 forum

In particular, check out Installation & Setup and the Capture boards.
You need to register to post.
And you could check their FAQ , although its search engine is kind of clunky.

    oh, bummer!
I say that because I just made a quick browse of the Studio forum, and didn't yet see any definitive solutions for other folks having the same problem. (it was a VERY quick browse, don't give up hope!)

You could try installing the official Studio bug-patch ---
I don't know which specific Studio 9 version you have (9.35, 9.43, etc)
but you can go to Romskye.com to get older version patches that are no longer available from the company's website.
    http://www.romskye.com/Site/Studiopatch/patch.htm

You could try re-installing the firewire drivers---
Go to Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager button.
Right-click on each of the firewire ports in Device Manager and select 'Uninstall'.
Reboot your computer, and the firewire drivers will automatically reinstall.

Someone suggested Microsoft's Firewire patch to fix a problem from Service Patch 2.

I have NO experience with using camcorder pass-through, so I'm just fumbling in the dark.
I truly think you should post your problem at either or both of the two forums I mentioned earlier.
If I have any sudden brainstorms, I will post back.

let us know how you get on with this problem.
