I own a Sony HandyCam and use USB stream to load the Video file in my computer.
My question is what is the codec?
I'm tring to use an application called: vdts , to add time and date to the Video,
but it keeps telling me that my file is not a valid DV AVI file.

What kind of file is it?

    Thanks.

drop the file in gspot and find out. if it's a miniDV cam, afaik you have to transfer with firewire to get DVavi off a sony.

Over USB it is most likely CIF 352x288 intended for webcaming.

DV over the I-Link/Firewire/IEEE-1394 port is full quality DV format 720x576i, 16bit PCM audio, 25Mb/s.

Some newer DV cameras will send DV over USB 2, but the ones I have seen require drivers to be installed etc. Not a straight forward initially as firewire transfers.

  6. You may like to try our Enosoft DV Processor. It will capture the video via Firewire and add the time/date at the same time.
