There's some talk about on the web related to the need to update the drives firmware .

As for nero ... it could simple be the version , esspecially if it was not included with the unit .
If the version dose include dl ... install , and try using imgburn to burn a dl .

From other source's , dl burning is supported by other units under :

Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, Microsoft Windows XP

    Some ImgBurn guides.

And to save yourself some headaches most recommend Verbatim +R DL discs for movies.

I used a Pioneer 110 and a NEC 3540 burners with Verbatim D/L disks in Windows ME without any problem. I used Nero 6.3,your "bundled" version is probablly Nero7 which I believes requires Windows XP.
You can probably find Nero 6 on ebay around $10.00 On later Pioneer's you should use an ATA66 cable, older ATA33 cables won't work properly because the 110 and 111 are ATA66 drives.

You may find the FAT32 me file system a limiting factor for dual layer backup/burning too.
