I have a few tapes which, when I play them in my JVC-S9911U, will stop and rewind automatically prematurely at a certain point on each tape. In other words, one tape will stop and rewind at exactly 27:11, one will do the same at 1:09:14 etc. I can fast forward beyond these points (both are 2 hours long) just fine and play the tape from there. But if the VCR is engaged in play, once they hit those spots they stop and rewind. Anyone know why this happens? I don't think the tapes are mechanically defective and a cheaper Panasonic (non-SVHS) VHS deck plays them fine.

  2. Actually the tapes could be marginal mechanically with problems developing. Thye could be binding at that spot. When you play them in the panasonic does that part of the tape look pristine?

My guess is that the 9911U, I have one BTW, is more sensative to tape problems. Most likely to protect itself from being damaged by bad tapes.

In the past I have had VCRs that wouldn't play past a damaged spot and others that would.

You have two options capture only with the Panasonic, or do three captures one up to the stop, one beyond the stop and a third one of the point where the JVC stops and then edit them together, or just ignore that short segment.

    Good Luck
