    You didn't say price was an issue, so you can check out Pioneer's PRV-LX1 for $5,000. I don't know if it can do text with chapters, though.

    Yeah, we have an LX1 at work and I don't like it all that much, and yes I'm hoping for something cheaper. Thank you!

    I highly doubt you will find a consumer level recorder that can do this. Some of the pro units might. Check out the Datavideo MP-6000, it might do it (but it only writes to + media).
