Hi, recently I've been trying to find a way to convert and burn my avi files onto a DVD for better watching experience, but I found it exteremely difficult and timewasting to do it... I tried god knows how many of them programs and couldnt find the one that suits me (i.e. easy enough for a total noob ). One time I burned a converted VOB file and the quality was horrible (both video and audio)... The last one i did was actually good enough, but in both cases it took me over 7 hours to burn one dvd from an avi video file...
Then i thought it might be a better idea just to get a xvid/divx compatable dvd player and just burn all my avi onto one dvd and play them from it... From my basic understanding the quality will remain unchanged and you'll be able to store a lot more videos this way on one DVD... Am I understanding it right?
If yes, which DVD players would you recommend in this case...
    Any other tips?

    Thankx in advance...

P.S. What are the advantages/dissadvantages of doing it either ways (i.e. would I be able to rewind the video in the avi format? etc)

The Philips DVP5960/05 is your best bet. This model is sold in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Here is a link ---> CLICK HERE

That model is known as DVP5960/37 here in the USA and it is a most excellent MPEG-4 capable DVD player. It should play most downloaded DivX and XviD video files.

This will make your life much easier but if you haven't already tried ConvertXtoDVD then you might want to give it a try. That is a program that converts many different types of files (such as MPEG-4 DivX and XviD files) to standard DVD Video format thus allowing you to create a standard DVD Video disc that will play in any regular DVD player.

    Thanx a lot..
btw, that was actually the program (ConvertXtoDVD) I used to create my last DVD... Like I said the quality was great compared to the other.

Follow up question: since I have a lot of 20-30mins files and I want them on one DVD, which program is best to do it with. Have in mind that it would be a great advantage if that program had a Menu (even if its basic) creator...

If you get a MPEG-4 capable DVD player (such as the Philips I mentioned) then you just create a DATA CD or DATA DVD with the AVI files. The player will have a very simple menu so that you can pick the file you want. It is best to go with the old 8/3 filename limits i.e., 12345678.123 or for example TVS01E05.AVI

If you want to make a standard DVD Video and want to keep it simple then ConvertXtoDVD is really the best tool ... and it does create a menu for you.

If that was the one with ConvertXtoDVD something don't sound right. With my older AMD 2600 system it always converts quickly, less than the actual time of the clip, i.e. a 90 minute movie takes about an hour at the highest quality setting.

He just has a slow computer. There was a time when a 90 minute movie took me 36 - 48 hours to encode although that computer was slow compared to what Antibug has now but still the computer Antibug has now is way slower that what you have MysticE or what I currently have so 7 hours doesn't sound out-of-line.
