I have 1Click DVD Copy Pro and DVD95Copy installed on my computer as well as DVD Shrink, VobBlanker, InfoEdit, FixVTS Pgcedit, DVDFab Decrypter and RipIt4Me. When I make a backup, I prefer to delete previews and keep the extras that are about the movie. Then I like to adjust the compression of the remaining titlesets so that the movie has the least compression. I also want to preserve the menu. While this can be done with both Pro and DVD95, AnyDvd's setting "Remove adverts and trailers" has to be used to prevent playback problems. In addition eliminating small titlesets such as FBI warnings can also create play back problems with these two programs.

Has anyone been able to use any combination of software to accomplish the above while maintaining the menu? If so do you have any tutorials available?

DVD Shrink does it easily. Leave the compression setting for the main title as Automatic, then set the rest to custom and adjust downward. The main title will use whatever is left.

Personally, when I used to do this, I would use DVD Rebuilder instead. It can encode the extras at half-D1, allowing for a better quality picture at lower bitrates. Transcoders cannot do this.

Thank you. I wasn't aware of this. However that would be in the full disk mode. If I deleted titlesets, I would have to use the Re-author. Then I would lose menu.

But if I used VobBlanker to delete the unwanted titltesets (previews) and ripped to the hard drive, I would then be able to use the full disk mode in the way you suggested. Is that correct.

I also have Nero 6. Does that have a similar function as Shrink?

I have DVD Rebuilder Pro as well. I was not aware of recording extras a "half-D1". I have never used this function. Can you explain how to set it up so that I can use it.

Nero Recode is basically DVD Shrink (same author) and has the same functionality. Yes, you can process with VobBlanker first, then use Shrink to transcode down to size.

As for DVD Rebuilder, the simplest method is to select Mode -> Half-D1 for Extras, or Half-D1 and Steal Space from Extras (that latter being the most efficient) however you need to be careful doing this in episodic discs (TV series etc) as it will mark the first title as the main, and half-D1 the rest. In this instance, go to the Options tab and expand the AVS Expert Options branch. Expand the Resize to Half-D1 branch and tick the titlesets you want to resize.

Thank you very much. I see it now. I was looking under the settings section not the mode section. So I would use VobBlanker to remove the previews and rip to the hard drive then use Pro to recode and delegate compression. I probably would not need to remove previews unless there were a lot of them and they used up a lot of space. I have run across some DVDs with long previews. I am going to save this thread and print it out for future reference. You have been a great help.

That's all I do, and I don't use DVD-RB and I certainly don't use inferior transcoders. Remove what you want using VobBlanker (or a combination of VobBlanker and PGCEdit), reencode the extras you want to keep for the quality you want (I use CCE with a low bitrate matrix and a CQ 1-pass setting), and fill the remaining space with your reencode of the movie.
