  1. Newbie to anything to do with the PC and RAM or authoring but been using my E80 to edit for a very long time. Through reading on here I've been able to gather I can easily go from RAM to my PC and do whatever I need to to save the file to PC after a brief learning curve. (please correct me if i'm wrong)

But my real question is, could make an avi or other video file (no idea what) into something that can be recorded onto RAM and then played in the panny e80?

I can get a plextor 750 for 39 bucks new but am not sure if it's really gonna be worth it unless I have portability between the E80 and my PC via RAM

My Panasonic dvd recorder also supports dvd-ram but my computer drives does not so I don't use it, I use dvd-rw or dvd+rw instead.

I record using an RW disk then copy the contents to my computer hard drive where I can then edit out commercials and author it to a new DVD(+-)R disk with a neat selection menu that I create.

I then format my RW disks (erase) and reuse them again for the next time.

    Good luck.

  3. thanks for the reply. Seems like panny to PC works.

Have you ever used your RW to take something that originated on your pc (avi for example) and gotten it to play on your panny?

  4. There are a lot of topics on dvdRAM to PC. Search the forums. I don't know why you would want to put those back edited PC files on your Panny. It doesn't make sense to me. My Panny can read them just fine.

Since I bought a Panasonic drive for my PC that reads RAM, it came with their RAM editing software which is really nice.

  5. specifically what i would like to do is download and AVI (torrent) on my PC, burn to RAM, put in the panny and watch it on my big screen.

I am not concerned with dubbing back to the panny HDD (though may be nice).

sorry for not saying this is what is most important to me

So is there a way to convert AVI so that the panny will play it

I just need to know that it is possible as I research it all later but dont know how long this burner i want will be on sale.

Is the panny PC RAM drive inherently better to get (software wise etc) to do what i want.

No can do with an E80 (I have one right here). What you can do is convert the avi to DVD and then burn that onto a DVD-R or a DVD+R bitset to DVD-ROM. I do that all the time....

For big screen TV I always ask why you didn't just buy an Oppo DVD player and forget all the hassles?

  7. thanks for the first handed experience. I got the E80 3 years go and never had a need to share files between it and my PC. however, now there are some shows that I'd like to download online and play on my E80. (crashed tivos or crashed e80 lost them).

As i dont have dvd on my PC, I'm just looking for my first drive. Nothing fancy or superfast, but gets the job done.

So have you taken an avi , converted and burnt to -R and played it on E80?

Sounds like this may work yet.

Also I should say this will not be an everyday thing, but i do want it as a certain option if i need it. Also I just fixed by E80 (new drive) so i'm keeping this setup for a while.

  8. Its easier to get a divx dvd player then it is to do that converting. Then you can just write you avi files to a disk & play it.

You might be able to input the dvd player into your panny inputs if you don't have an extra one on your tv. Some avis are copyrighted I noticed.

My Panasonic DMR-ES10 will only understand DVD-RAM media when formated to DVD-VR format.

I think you will have to author you movie to DVD-VR so your Recorder can play it directly.
