You could use the freeware VOB2MPEG to get the whole DVD to a large MPEG-2 file. From there, it depends on your software to convert to FLV with audio.

I haven't used Riva, so I don't know what it is looking for. Try installing AC3 Filter or AC3 ACM Decoder in case Riva simply can't open the AC3 file. If this doesn't work you may have to manually convert the audio to something else like PCM or CBR MP3 before converting the whole lot to flv.

  5. I cant get riva to work. I downloaded virtual dub and I get a message"invalid pack, marker bit not set, mpeg2 stream". which I have no idea what it means. maybe its the file. I copied the file from dvd with vob2mpg2. Can rejig resize it? I just want it 100mb for utube.

Only Virtualdubmod or virtualdubmpeg2 can open mpegs. That said, they can also open vobs.

I thought YouTube preferred to get Xvid files and do their own conversion.

...then use a decent codec. You're probably saving uncompressed avi.

Install DivX 6 and you'll see it available in VirtualDub under the Video > Compression tabs. There's plenty of output options available.

Like wise, you'll need an audio codec too Audio > Full Processing Mode > Compression.
