I have bought a IEEE1394 Laptop CardBus that goes into PCMCIA Slot and am trying to connect it with my desktop computer. I have cable with 6 pins on each side and I plugged in into the card and into my desktop. At this moment I am not sure what to do. I see that device is working fine, but how do I send the signal from it to my desktop?

Have you tried the XP Networking Wizard? You can find it in 'Control Panel>Network Connections', same place as your LAN connection, then just click on 'Create a new connection'. You set it up the same way as a LAN connection.

I did connected a different laptop to my desktop which has build in IEEE1394 and had no problems setting up network. I m a little bit confused here since the signal comes from PCMCIA, but that should be the same thing right?

  4. What operating systems do you have on each?

When you say "how do I send the signal from it to my desktop", you're not trying to send a video stream to it are you? i.e., treat the laptop as a DV device? (Sorry if that's a dumb question!) That isn't possible without additional drivers (i.e., it is technically possible to make the computer appear to be a real AV/C device, but that's another story!)

IEEE-1394 networking using TCP/IP is only supported on certain versions of Windows.

Yes thats correct. I have XP PRO on bouth machines. I was able to do the network beetween the other laptop (with build in IEEE) nad my desktop. I'm just wondering if I should do this the same way using PCMCIA Card.

No matter what 1394 device is installed it's designed to work. PCMCIA is just fine. I was using it for a long time without a single hiccup.

That's what I do since my laptop doesn't have built-in Firewire.

Have you looked in Network Connections to see what's there?
