Merry Christmas everyone. Could someone tell me if there is either a software program that will check a ripped DVD file on your hard drive for errors (prior to burning). If not, how can I check my hard drive file for possible errors prior to burning so that I do not waste a disc and create a coaster unnecessarily. Thank you very much for your reply and expertise.

Use PowerDVD or WinDVD to test play the disc. Generally, if you have errors on your HDD then you will have problems reading the files and not be able to burn. Windows has a built-in tool called CheckDisk or ScanDisk (depending on the version of Windows) to look for disk errors.

Coasters generally come from poor quality DVD media, not HDD errors. Test playing the disc from your HDD will let you test navigation, chapters etc.
