  1. Hello friends

I hope this is the right forum to discuss this issue, if not mods please excuse me and move this to the correct forum.

I used the Nero Toolkit to find the information about my drive. In one of the tabs I found that System ASPI installation is corrupted. I searched the net and found 2 tools: 1. Adaptec ASPI Installation Verification and Force ASPI. I used the Force ASPI to install ASPI afresh [I did a Kill ASPI first. rebooted, ran install ASPI.bat and rebooted]. I found that the version of ASPI is now older [4.60 (1021)] than what I had earlier [4.71.2]. Tough Nero Info Tool reported a good ASPI installation this time.

I went to the Adaptec's site to find more info and came to know that the latest version is 4.71.2. So i downloaded the latest installer again from Downoad.com [Adaptec's page for download is not available] and installed it.

Now, Nero Info Tool again reports that System ASPI Installation is corrupted, but the Adaptec's tool is reporting "ASPI is properly installed and fully operational" [though this field, where the statement is written and the statement also is completely greyed out].

    Adaptec's report:

    ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2 16512 bytes
    WOWPOST.EXE 4.6(1021) 4672 bytes
    WINASPI.DLL 4.6(1021) 5600 bytes
    WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2 455056 bytes
Nero Info Tool is displaying the same file information as above.

I have two burners- liteon DVD burner and LG CD burner. DVD burners firmwire is the latest. The problem I faced is that the Lite On sometimes could not recognize the CD as a media to write and sometimes burn failure.

    Thank you.

  2. These are correct version numbers, if i remember correctly, if you installed ASPI 4.71.2.

    ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2 16512 bytes
    WOWPOST.EXE 4.6(1021) 4672 bytes
    WINASPI.DLL 4.6(1021) 5600 bytes
    WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2 455056 bytes
There is actually nothing wrong with the latest APSI from adaptec other than the installer doesn't include the 'Exclude Miniports' entry in your Registry.

    One of the *.reg files included in the ForceASPI package should contain a line that looks something like this (Win2k example);
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Aspi32\Parameters]
    "ExcludeMiniports"=""
By adding this entry the NeroInfo Tool should read everything correctly when using the latest Adaptec ASPI.

It does require a reboot before the change takes effect.

  3. Thank you

So should I make a .reg file with that line and merge it to my registry?

  4. The example i posted should work for Win2k and XP (32-bit), and can be pasted into Notepad, then saved with the *.REG file extension (All Files).

The version for Win9x-Me might have quotation marks somewhere. (check the ForceASPI *.reg files to verify)

  5. Thank you very much

I use Windows XP 32bit, so I think your example will work without any changes.

Many folks actually prefer this version. I hope this solves your problem as with XP I don't think you even need ASPI anyway.

Count me as one..On my previous system, I always had issues if I tried ASPI v4.71; none with 4.60..So obviously, I chose to use 4.60.

Something that's newer isn't necessarily better.

  8. Today I burnt one DVD video image using ImgBurn- to my sheer ashtonishment [and horror] that the Data Verification completely faild . Though the video ran without any hitch in my Stand Alone DVD player. Do you think that this has happened because of the ASPI layer?

BTW, ImgBurn Data Verification results are very accurate in nature, before this I never found a burnt disk worked even afte Data Verification Results of ImgBurn failed.

I have searched the web I think of going back to 4.60 too.

    What say you?

    Thanks for your replies

On my sp2 rig I don't even have ASPI (Adaptec) installed. Nero ASPI is there, but that is just part of Nero.

Seems most XP applications use MS' SPTI.

I have two burners- liteon DVD burner and LG CD burner. DVD burners firmwire is the latest. The problem I faced is that the Lite On sometimes could not recognize the CD as a media to write and sometimes burn failure.
Is there a reason why you think this is ASPI related? If you use Nero will it work?

Do you have ImgBurn set up to use SPTI?

  10. Hello MysticE

thank you for taking time to answer.

I have used NERO and it does work properly.

I have also checked the configuration of ImgBurn, and the ASPI selected is of MS.

BTW, I have reverted back to 4.60.

    Thank you again.
