  1. OK, so I have been spoiled. I used TDA for the last eighteen months, and it imports right from disc in one simple and relatively fast move. But I wanted more feature rich editing capability (OK so I am a tinkerer, but isn't that what this is all about?) I purchased Magix 11 in March of this year, and immediately discovered it doesn' have fast import method (or does it?).

You have to go to the Import Video option, and then let the system break the disc down into the usual assembly of VTS files, all of which must then be uploaded to the editing rack one by one. This might not be a big deal if you have time on your hands, but in TDA, it is one operation of maybe ten to fifteen minutes tops, and I can walk away and/or do something else. Magix, on the other hand needs feeding. So far I haven't had the patience to wait, so I stopped using it.

Does anyone out there have a better way?

Maybe use VOB2MPG and import one mpg file?

  3. Does it support ac3 sound track? My Benq PVR uses this format, but TAD doesn't support it.

  4. Also wondering why I have to go through this convoluted process if it also means having to re-encode the files afterwards. How long does Magix take to do this with a compliant MPEG file? I have used ULead products in the past and found them to take forever rendering MPEG to VOB/ISO formats.

I would stick with TDA but it can't handle AC3 (or can it?)

Sorry, but I am also having trouble mastering Magix trimming operation - their tutorial isn't a tutorial, just a glorified demo - it's useless.
