And neither will DivX Player. I downloaded the latest release, and it still crashes. I've also updated my 3ivX, XviD, and AC3/A52 audio components, but nothing works. I suspect it may have something to do with the latest Quicktime update, since this has never happened before, and Apple is notorious for screwing things up like that. Anyone else have this problem? I have quite a large number of videos, so I'd like to leave re-encoding them as a last resort.

Anyway, at least I have VLC, or I'd be SOL. I just wish the sound wasn't so tinny.

If it helps, here's a screenshot of all the components I have installed in my Quicktime library. If anyone knows of components that don't work well together, it would really help.

EDIT: I'm having some problems with my machine right now; Grab and System Preferences keep crashing, so I'll see if I can post later.

Sounds like I'd start by running Onyx, Cocktail, or at the least Disc Utility.

then second, I'd just use, if you have Toast 7, the DIVX codec installed with it.
    That's the only DIVX flavor I use...I still have 3ivx 4.51,
Perian, and a few others ( Flip4mac, FCP codecs, Ogg)
but outside of that nothing else, and everything works well.

What are Onyx and Cocktail? Are they like DivX Doctor?

Anyway, I got it working again. Unfortunately, I've just been through hell. I made the mistake of installing an XviD component that isn't compatible with Panther, which crashed my system. I had to get on the phone with tech support, and then reinstall the operating system (thank god for the archive install feature!)

This happened twice, and since then I've been reinstalling a few things that didn't make it.
