I was thinking about getting a standalone DVD recorder that I can utilize as a pass through frame synchronizer when capturing my old VHS tapes to my PC. How can I tell which have this feature?

AFAIK they all do. I've tested units by Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic, and Lite-On. I would be surprised to learn of one that doesn't.

My Toshiba RD-KX50 is particularly well suited as a passthrough TBC/Frame Synchronizer because it has proc amp controls at its output (brightness, contrast, saturation, hue), along with superior TBC performance and excellent passthrough picture quality.

Note that a DVD Recorder will not remove copy protection. If it is detected on the input, it will be inserted on the output.
Life is better when you focus on the signals instead of the noise.

This will be for home recorded VHS tapes. So copy protection won't be an issue for me.

    thanks for the info.

Panasonic DMR-ES10 has great synchronizers. Some people in this forum uses this machine specifically for this usage.

This is no the greatest recorder, but it does a great job in this regard.
