My problem is that when I convert my mp3 audio to ac3 for a dvd there is no volume. I have tried to follow other advice on how to increase volumes with besweet but to be honest, im a noob when it comes to stuff other than the straight forward stuff.
Im not sure if there is no sound or that it is really quiet, at max vol on my speakers there is only hiss. The track is fine before, in mp3. is there a reason why besweet would lower the volume when it converts to ac3? is there any other way to increase the volume of an ac3 file as I have tried increasing the volume before converting using virtualdub which resulted in the same quiet ac3 after I converted the WAV. any help would be great

How do you play the ac3? does other ac3 files work fine? If not try ac3filter and Media Player Classic.

You can also try ffmpeggui, but it should be similiar to besweet as it's also based on ffmpeg.

Or try Aften, a command line tool, open a cmd prompt and type aftern audio.wav audio.ac3

I just use media player to play the ac3. I have the 1.11 ac3 filter. I have checked another movie that has ac3 and it plays fine.

I tried converting the file to ac3 with ffmpeggui and the sound was great. Only problem, which I failed to mention before, is that I need the file file to fit a movie that is 25fps. The original mp3 is from a movie that is 23.976 fps. Is there a way to convert to 25fps with ffmpeg?

You could use besweet and convert to wav with the "23.96 to 25fps"-options and then convert the wav to ac3 with ffmpeggui.

If besweet can do the fps conversion correctly ... then you need to check the bitrate used for the conversion ... it's too low .

Click the "ac3 & ogg" button , then in this area over to the left , ramp up the bitrate ... the default is set at 384 .

Also be aware , that even though both the video , and audio will now have matching fps rates , they will not have matching time length's ... which will cause problems .

Why , because the audio come's from another source .

You could also encode the movie at PAL resolution (720 x 576) at 23.976 fps, then use DGPulldown with 23.976 -> 25 fps. This will give you PAL compliant playback without changing the length of the movie at all. You can then use your ffmpeggui encoded AC3 files. You also avoid the usual quality pitfalls of software format conversion (jerky zooms and pans, double frames and bad blends etc).

Avoid screwing with audio length wherever possible. Too much hassle when there are better alternatives.
