I looked at hte lest on the <- but I didn't see anywhere if any of those can upconvert or which ones can. I have a JVC XV-N410 and the picture is nowhere close as good as on my xbox 360. Believe it or not it actually plays movies better. But I don't want to always use it as my main player. Like on my JVC there are green colors where the black should be, but on the 360 I don't get that at all, thus, providing a better picture.

What I'm looking for is a player that can upconvert a DVD movie to either 720p and/or 1080i through component. If it has HDMI great and it would be nice to have for future TV upgrades.

Can anyone offer a few player suggestions as a replacement? Should of never gootten the JVC, I am a little disappointed in it.

Check out OPPO dvd players, the only model they have that upconverts over component is the 970, and then only on non-CSS discs. It does do a nice job though.

Why not use the 360 as your player? I does an excellent upconvert as you say (we have one too) and saves space. Unlike when it plays games, the power usage for CD/DVD playing is quite nominal. I forget where I saw that but a simple test for me was the fan. When playing games, you can tell the box is working hard with the fan trying to keep things under control. When playing CDs/DVDs its as quiet as can be.

yeah but I mainly want the 360 for games only and not always as a DVD player. And I heard that it does not upconvert through component...just through vga? dunno if that's true or not but I want a better stand alone player as requested in the similar topic.

    Never heard of OPPO.

    amb7247,

You got an excellent upscalling dvd player in the 360. It'll do 1080p on vga and will do 1080i on component. Not sure what more you could ask for. In fact, VGA on the 360 is the only way you'll get 1080p. Try to find that on any other set top player.

(NOTE: Just realized we haven't talked about what you have for a TV yet...)

Even if it only went to 720p, that is still nearly 4 times (twice the height and twice the width) the resolution (upscaled of course). You will see no appreciable difference between component and hdmi, and possibly worse.

Its your money, though I think you've already got it pretty good.

component is still doing 480P. If I wanted to do 1080i on my tv I'd have to wait for a HDMI cable to plug into my tv when they release that cable.
