I don't know about you all, but I am sickened by all this HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray garbage. I won a 1080P TV, thus want Blu-Ray, but it seems HD DVD is getting all the good titles, at least at first.

For example, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is coming out on HD DVD and who knows about Blu-Ray. I see the two formats as two completely different entities. People who do not own 1080P TV's or plan to, so HD DVD at 1080i is the right solution. HD DVD players are less expensive, and only by Toshiba right now I think. I really wish they would both license each others technology to each other, instead of trying to win a race. There is no real reason, other than fiscal jargon, why Blu Ray should play HD DVD, and vice versa. People are going to buy based on price and fit to their needs, not because of a name of the format. Sony is always trying this, and now it seems it has spread.

If HD DVD was 1080P capable than this would be a different story..Oh but wait The Toshiba HD-XA2 will be 1080P! now we have a product war on our hands. The 2nd generation Toshiba will use HDMI 1.3, but does your TV have to be HDMI 1.3 to benefit from this? if so will a firmware update do this? All mysteries to me.

All I know is, if I want LOTR in 1080P I'll have to wait a lreal ong time or pay $1000 in like 6 months. However I hear 1080P is not much better than 1080i, but again there is no way to do a true comparison. People seem very happy with HDDVD's 1080i ouput... how much better can blu-ray's 1080P be? Lots of people don't seem happy with Blu-ray...why is this? Will HDDVD's 1080P output be better than them all?
