    Hi guys!

I'm buying an IMac extremely soon.

Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone knew of any good AUDIO editing programs for the Mac.

Any help would be great. I'm looking for something mid to high end.

Let me know if you get a chance!

    Thanks!

You might want to consider Adobe, they just announced new audio software for editing etc. (Soundbooth). Right now is beta and supposedly only will work with Intel Macs but if your just getting your Mac you should be fine. Don't know anything about it but they have a beta version to download.

Being the cheap SOB that I am, I have a fondness for freeware/shareware tools. I have friends who are Bias Peak fans, but they're pros, and are willing to pay accordingly. I'm a rank amateur, and have relatively modest needs (splicing, pitch correction, time stretching/shortening, pop and click removal when saving from LPs, etc.). For these tasks, Audacity works great. I find it easy to use, and it supports third-party plug-ins to enhance its feature set. I've used the time-stretching feature to resync audio that drifts relative to the video (an unfortunately common problem when converting video formats) without having to reencode the whole dang movie, and the click removal feature has worked magically to clean up noisy LPs. You may wish to give it a try -- hey, it's freeware, so you can't lose too badly!

    Jenny,
According to your link to Cool Edit, it was acquired by Adobe, and repackaged as Audition, only for PC systems now. I don't know anything about it but on the Soundbooth link in the beta feedback forums, several users wish they would make it for the Mac. Post some feedback there if you like it. I'd be trying out the Soundbooth beta software myself but I've got a G5 tower, t's only for Intel Macs

FCP has audio, but I wouldn't call it an Audio Editor.

Logic. ProTools. There are many others (besides what's already been listed).

Cornucopia...FCP isn't just an audio editor?

That's all I thought it was?

FCP is an NLE (Non-Linear Editor), meaning Video Editor, as as such it must be able to do audio. (Video editors wouldn't be very good if they couldn't do the audio along with it).

    BUT...

FCP is ONLY Frame-accurate, not Sample-accurate, and doesn't have full support of all the usual DSP plugins, like most good audio editors would.
Plus, you probably don't have full control of fade ramp curves, etc., like you would with most good audio editors (not-completely sure here, as I don't use FCP very much at all, but have a colleage that does).

    Hey Cornucopia , and others!

Yeah, you're probably right, and make some sense...

I am a big fan of Sony Acid Pro (but Vegas isn't as in depth, I find when it comes to Audio).

I should check if Acid Pro is available for Macs........I'll do that....

What type of audio work do you plan on doing? The more specific you get the better we can help (ie. kind of equipment, how many tracks at once, live instruments or synths).
