Hi, I have a standalone DVD player which can play XVID/ AVI files successfully.

I recently tried to put a SRT subtitle file in the same folder as the avi file. I also made sure the video and srt file has the same name. Then I burn it to CD.
However, the subtitle is not displayed.

    How should I correct this?
    Thank you.

Did you press the subtitle button on the remote control?

When I press the subtitle button, it shows "Subtitle [OFF]" in a faded color, which I'd assume is non-available feature.
When I press again, nothing happens as well.

My DVD player is of an obscure brand, but I'm confident of its quality though.
The subtitles of DVDs work just fine on it.

I'm thinking of trying to change the .SRT extension to .SUB extension. Will it make a difference?

Btw, the method I first use above, that is the standard way of burning subtitle with avi files, rite?

Does your player support AVI subtitles at all? Your method seems sound. Changing file extension is rarely a solution to any problem.

As I was thinking, I've used spacing in the filenames of the AVI and SRT files.. like "Surface 7.avi" and "Surface 7.srt".

Maybe it's a spacing issue? cos the player only shows Surface_.avi on the menu.

Spaces in file name s is always a bad idea. But do you know your player support subtitles at all? I browsed the specs for the Sony DVP-NS63P and couldn't see subtitles mentioned.
