Sorry for the newbie question. I have 2 computers both loaded with xp and Im using Pinnacle studio 8 on both. My slow computer will allow me to output an avi using the option " Uncompressed (YUY2) " for a codec. I prefer this when doing small picture slide shows because it seems to look way better then when i use the DV codec. BUT, my fast computer doesnt even list this option in the drop down table to choose from. How can i get that to show up so i can use that option? Do i need a YUY2 codec or something?

Use Lagarith. It's not uncompressed, but it is lossless, so imagewise it will be the same.

    xoch11,

I have (usually) only seen this as related to ATI cards, plus I have
one, so that might ring a bell. Anyways.

That is a similar message (ATI related, usually) and is popping up
because you don't have one of the ATI drivers on your *faster* computer.

Oh, and fwiw, the "Uncompressed (YUY2)" means, RAW yuv stream, that
encapsulates the YUY2 format. Again, its probably ATI related and you
have to find out what driver (codec) that *slower* computer is using,
in order to include that option in your faster computer.

I actually like (prefer) to use the UYVY (similar to YUY2) codec that
my ATI card includes. It does give the greatest detail of a video,
when captured, but it also eats up a lot of HDD space, not to mention
my years-long-suffering the noise in my captured videos. That is why
I had opped for the DV route and use my advc-100 to this day.. well,
at least until I solve the line noise from my pci captures, which is
    probably never. So, until then..

Thanks for the info guys. After further review of my old system i noticed it had a STB PCI TV Tuner Card. I am assuming that is why I had the YUYuncompressed option. Must be a codec related to that card. My question is if i load that driver on to my good system, then do you think i would have that option? I did try the lagarith codec and it seems to work good. Should I even worry about loading that other driver to get the YUY2 or just stick with the lagarith codec? Assuming it is "lossless" there shouldnt really be any noticible difference right?

Visually, no. Sizewise, Lagarith will give you much smaller files.

The only difference I can think of might be that the codec you mentioned may have hardware assist on the card, and so will use up less CPU resources while capturing (and probably while editing/viewing), which may help somewhat AFA frame-drops, etc.

If Lagarith already works for you, stick with it!
