    Quick question,

I've edited a little video together. Everything was shot in 16:9 mode, captured with the "anamorphic" easy setup in FCP. The project is an anamorphic project and the canvas is in 16:9.

However when i export my video using the quicktime movie option (as i normally do) it exports as a 4:3 image...

How to I get it to export in the proper 16:9 format?

    Thanks in advance

If you don't get what you need here try kenstone.net or the Final Cut Pro forum at discussions.apple.com. Those are the best sources I know for Final Cut Pro info.

If you're exporting to a QuickTime movie (and not back to the camera), are you planning to make a DVD? Your DVD authoring program should ask you if its a 16:9 source or not. If for some reason it doesnt, author the DVD anyway ... Settop DVD players have a setting to stretch video to 16:9 proportions.

the problem is is that the exported quicktime file is not showing as a 16:9 file but rather a 4:3 file (pulls the 16:9 video to fill the 4:3 frame).

the only way i can get it to work properly is to export using compressor... which is fine in the end but is kind of a pain when i just want to create a quick preview file.

My brother had a similar problem with Final Cut Express. He encoded and authored a DVD disc image with Toast and then used MyDVDEdit to change the IFO to automatically stretch the playback to 16:9.

The problem my brother has is he is using a true anamorphic lens with his camera. My consumer DV camera has an electronic setting to create 16:9 video and Final Cut Express recognizes that properly. But with my brother's high-end gear the software doesn't understand how the video was shot. We've tried many things but changing the IFO seems to be the one that works.

Well, if you can dictate frame size when you export from Final Cut (I cant seem to remember the steps right now), a DV video displayed as 16:9 in QuickTime is 853x480; an MPEG2 video file is 720x404.
