hi folks. i am having trouble with my liteon dvd writer its the model shw 1635s. the problem didnt exist until about a week ago. i dont know when exactly it started as there was a week where i didnt burn anything so could have happened bewteen that time. it just took me 15minutes to burn a 700mb data disk using nero 6. i selected to burn it at 40x and that would usually be done in under 5 minutes. when im burning the cpu usage shoots up to 100% and stays that way until its done. i havent been able to burn a dvd as the time it would take would be like 2 hours lol.
so i tried a different burning application, same problem occured. i tried defferent media, same problem occured. my ide devices are set to use DMA if available. now im all out of reasons why this could be happening and how i can fix it. the burner and computer are only a year old, burners not had heavy use. anybody got any suggestions on what i might try, as i dont wanna buy a new drive

    That is strange

I would try uninstalling/reinstalling Nero, using their clean-up utility between the two. Use this tool:

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html

And make sure you have the latest driver in your Windows/system32 folder. Here's where to find it:

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/WNASPI32.DLL.html

I occasionally have to do this when Nero starts behaving strangely.

The way you described it at first, my first instinct was that it's an interface problem, but Sandra reports you're at UDMA-4. That should be plenty fast.

  4. You may have picked up some spyware or a virus. Run Hijackthis and post the results on
    http://www.techguy.org/ for analysis.

grossjamesh brings up a valid point. It would be a good idea to run your anti-spyware apps even if you do get the problem solved, and get yourself a copy of Rootkit Revealer too.

It ferrets out "Sonyware" and other devious little things that embed themselves in your registry It's free. PM me if you can't find it Googling and I'll shoot you a copy

have run hijack this and posted the log on that website but no reply to that yet after about 10 hours so need to wait and see if the hijack this topic gets a reply or not.
before i posted here i did do a scan with spybot, adaware and my AVG but nothing found that couldnt be fixed by that software.
