  1. What's a good set of headphones for under $100US?
    I'm tired of the Radio Shack specials.

    Thanks

    I don't know. I use a set of colby ones for the full over the ear types. At least I think it's colby. It's one of the off brands. Pretty good headphones though.

  3. Go on ebay and do a search on "pioneer headphones."

    You can get "vintage" Pioneer headphones (like the SE-205, SE-405, SE-50) or your older Monitor series for easily under a hundred bucks, sometimes as low as $20 (depending on if anybody else finds it before you do!). I've got a couple sets of Pioneer headphones from the 70's that I've had for twenty years and I've had friends (musicians) try 'em out and go, "Damn, these are sweet."

    EDIT: Just realized a lot also depends on what you're using your headphones for -- if it's for a portable device, these are way too big and bulky to move around a lot with. And I like over-the-ear headphones 'cause my primary use of headphones is for "studio" kinda stuff (with lots of outside sound) and these are great at keeping outside sound, out, and not making everybody else hear what you're playing.

    I've also heard (pardon the pun) good things about Grado headphones, you can get their base pair for $70 and they (I'm told) sound beyond excellent, but they're not comfortable for extended use. Might be worth a look!

    Another option would be wireless headphones.

    Here's an example...

    Sennheiser RS-120 Wireless Headphones

    You mentioned that you don't want Radio Shack phones. I'm not
    a fan of RS products, but 30 years ago I bought Realistic Pro-50 headphones.

    Fantastic!!! Excellent bass. Made by AKG in Austria. I still have them and they're GREAT.

    I missed this eBay auction. They sold for only $31.00

    @Mr.Dweezel,
    I agree about RS products of the past being good quality,I have a 15 year old Optimus receiver(made by Pioneer) and it sounds as good today as it did the day I bought it.

    Hah what are the chances that half of our electronics these days will last 15 years??? And I'm not just talking about the obsolesecence factor.

  7. I'd say for Hphones its difficlut to beat sennheiser also AKG and grado are(were) good makes.. nothing much to go wrong in headphones except the foam rotting or the connectors wearing out!?

    The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
