I have a problem with video conversion and would appreciate some help. My problem is as follows.

I have some.avi files that I want to put on a dvd so I can watch them on a dvd player. I have converted the files to .vob with Xilisoft video converter. But when I burn the files on to a dvd and attempt to play it the dvd player it doesn't work. I think the problem is that there are no .ifo or .bup files created from Xilisoft video converter. So I tried copying some off an actually dvd, but this didn't work either.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

I've got no idea how software can create VOBs without creating IFOs and BUPs - that raises all sorts of compliance issues - but if it has only created VTS_01_1.VOB -> VTS_01_5.VOB, IFOEdit and http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/test.htm#ifoedit should fix the situation for you. However I would suggest you try a better converter such as convertxtodvd. Both Xilisoft and WinAVI users seem to have so many problems if the number of posts here is anything to go by.
    If in doubt, Google it.
