Is it possable to write the subcode that is on a Digital Audio CD-R to make any CD-R into a Digital Audio CD-R. I own an older phillips CD-R stand alone audio recorder but wants only to run digital audio discs, What can i do to avoid hunting there brand discs down, CD-R discs can be found almost anywhere and i need to be able to use this recorder.

    Thank you.

    No.

It's not in the subcode. I expect it's either in the Burst Cutting Area (although I think this is just for DVD's) or in the PCA/PMA temp areas of the recordable (which are BEFORE the Lead-in/TOC).

  3. Hello, Mdniterder!

On a related note, if you still want to go via standalone CD recorder and not via computer CD drives albeit the impossibility of changing a data CD-R to a music CD-R, let me tell you that there are ways to fool some standalone CD recorders into thinking they have a music CD-R while actually having a data CD-R. Obvioulsy, this results in the possibility of recording on data CD-R's and not necessarily on music CD-R's. You can find this information on the Internet. Still, this approach works just on "some" standalone DVD recorders, so your unit might be in luck or might be out of luck.

From my understanding its called a flag on the cd that states it is a CD-R/RW Digital audio or music.
