Unspecified error when starting up HELP

Hi Crissy

been using the program for quite a while now and no problems except now
it was working fine yesterday but i noticed when i updated WMP to v11 today
it started doing this , i tried to play the splash file but it encounters a problem with WMP
so i guess its something to do with this .
I also installed the framework and SVCD/DVD twice but still no joy and a system restore

The program still converts and works to my knoledge as i burnt a dvd and watching it now
but the error still shouldnt be there and im afraid in case i do alot of work and its messing it up

It seems that upgrading WMP has caused it to not be able to play mpeg1 files... What is the WMP error?

The WMP error says 'Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file .For Assistance, click web help '


i clicked web help and guess what no help



so now im stuck with this problem

You could try installing mpeg codecs again. Try https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=GPL_MPEG-1_2_Decoder after which you will need to reboot.

i installed the package and restarted but no joy ,

i know there is one way to fix it but its not an option i would need to reinstall everything from scratch and not update WMP but i have over 600GB of stuff i need .


i noticed this problem is popping up over the forums now that people are having problems playing mpeg so yes again thanx to microsoft for screwing things up again

ok. try using https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=DirectShow_Filter_Manager to increase the merit of the filters you just installed to the maximum... again a reboot may be required.

can you explain how do i boost them i dont want to break pc
is there a guide to how i do what you ask im geting desperate now
i'll try anything well except a format

Fire up the filter manager.



1: Double click the filter in qustion
2: Raise the merit to the max
3: Click on "set the new merit"

Close everything down in the filter manager and reboot.
