You could use some of the lead-out space for music data if you overburn, which Toast won't do. Find another burning app for this project (Dragon Burn, MissingMediaBurner).

Alternatively you need to edit out about 30 seconds. CD Spin Doctor (bundled with Toast) can trim off the start or end of tracks.

Both the cd-r(w) writer drive and the burn software have to support overburn for it to work, iirc. Try googling your drive model + overburn to search for other user's experiences. I can't help you with using Dragon Burn, as I'm not familiar with it.

The best I've ever gotton onto an 80-min audio
CD is about 74 minutes. You need to go without
    a couple tracks.

I leave about 60 seconds free (79 minutes max, in other words) and never have an issue. While the discs are marketed as "80 minute", there are a few MBs used for housekeeping, etc. so you really never get the full 80 minutes.

You might, however, try eliminating gaps between songs (which would save about 2 seconds per track). The suggestion to edit out some of the start/end of the tracks is also sound; perhaps there's a long fade-in or fade-out that you may find acceptable to cut out.

    Let us know what happens.
