Hello,
I recently converted an avi movie to an mpeg using convertxtodvd. It converted to a dvd successfully with the subtitles (though i had to turn them on). After converting I wanted to create a menu for the dvd using dvd lab pro 2 and did so. I compiled it and everthing was fine. However, when i played the compiled dvd in power dvd, the menu and movie was fine but there were no subtitles. There was not even the option to turn them on. What i don't understand is why the dvd files converted from convertxtodvd had subtitles but the dvd after authoring with dvd lab pro 2 was without subtitles. Can anyone offer an explanation or tell me how to get the subs to work using dvd lab.
Cheers

Did you manually import the subs into DVD Lab Pro?

i tried to but it wouldn't recognise any subtitle files even when i changed the option to subtitle stream.

What format are the subtitles?

DVD Lab Pro will not import subtitles from VOBs, and if you demuxed, as you should have, then all you will have imported will be the elementary video and audio streams. To add the subtitles back, double-click the Subtitle track on the movie object, then import the original subs that you used. I find that DLP seems to work best with .srt subs.

The Subtitle is an SUB file. There was an option when i imported the dvd files into dvd lab to join VOB_1 with VOB_2. I didn't do this, but should i have? Do you demux using the original encoding program? I tried importing the sub file again and it registered, but when i clicked open it did not appear

In fact i remember it was demuxed as i had separate mpv and mpa files

AFAIK DVD Lab Pro will not accept SUB files, you can convert to SRT using the subresync tool that comes with VobSub.

i saved the sub as an srt but then a window appeared instructing me to enter the matching letters. Is this necessary as it would mean typing in all the letters of the subtitles and that seems ridiculous

You won't have to input every single letter, the program just needs a bit of help for letters/symbols it doesn't recognise.
