I use FireFox mainly because the majority of malicious programs are geared to Internet Explorer and may not work in FireFox.

Lightweight, not the prime target of attacks, lots of cool plugins, extensions and themes, tabbed browsing (that IE7 has adopted now)
/Mats -
For me the benefits are:
1. Tabbed browsing
Once you get used to using a tabbed web browser, you'll be amazed that you were ever able to surf the web without it. Of course IE 7 now has tabs too.
2. Its not IE
This is good because most of the exploits available on the web are designed for IE and may not work in Firefox
3. It is open source
Fixes for various problems or exploits are generally fixed quickly.
4. Built in popup blocking
IE has this now too, but it is a big help.
5. Extensions and Themes
Oh, the Extensions (insert satisfying sigh here). You'll love the extensions! There are extensions that can do just about anything you could possibly want. Ad blocking, Bookmark synchronization between computers, developer tools, weather, audio player, wood grained themes, etc. Or if you don't like them and are capable, you can create your own.
Its free and can work alongside IE, so I would recommend that everyone at least give it a try. -
IMHO tabbed browsing is over-rated. Have Firefox and IE7 on some of my systems. Find it to be annoying. Often closing all tabs when I would otherwise have closed a single window. I believe including it in IE7 was just copycatism and a lack of new features that people want.
Built in pop-up blocking was present in IE6 and continues in IE7. Another pain in the butt since many idiot website designers use popups to perform tasks which really don;t require popups and one has to windup over-riding the popup blocker.
I'm not sure what features that have been added since IE3 are actually worth having. Change for the sake of change is not good. Unless you have a good reason just use what you have been using. -
I like tabbed browsing. What I particularly like about Firefox is the way that handle a lot of little things. Like when I accidentally close a tab, I can get it back (including the history of that tab) through the history menu.
I also like how Firefox handles images. IE6 audomatically loaded the image to fit the window and then you had to click it or move the cursor onto it and wait (and hope) for the "expand" icon to appear. Firefox changes your cursor into a magnifying glass that you can click at any time.
I love the ForecastFox weather plugin, and DownThemAll. And I am curious about several others as well.
I like the auto spell checking. I like the way Firefox handles "Find text on this page".
One thing that kept me from Firefox until version 2 is the ability to type "amazon" and then hit CTRL+Enter, which adds "www." and ".com". Firefox now does that.
One thing I'd like to see added to Firefox is the ability to stop the playing of a midi or mp3 file in certain webpages. Oftentimes I am already listening to music and that just makes a mess of things (why do people put music on their webpages? I hate that). -
Unlike Opera, it correctly saves files (no that terrible renaming/name truncation) at saving pages, keeping them editable. Can be configured (using plugins) for fast turning on/off loading images (unlike IE with its far hidden adjustments), for passing downloads to selected d/l manager, etc.

Though the simple fact that Firefox 2 has a built-in "as you type" spell checker caused me MUCH rejoicing. -

Many people don't realize that most of the malware, up until the last couple of years or so, didn't "hack" IE or take advantage of security flaws and defects, but, rather, used FEATURES i.e. stuff Microsoft deliberately designed into the browser.

Here is with 4 tabs open. All of course are www.videohelp.com pages.
Good luck.

What's really funny about these screenshots, both are listed by most Mem Usage.....
NOW THAT'S SAD!!! -
Evening guys.
Did someone mention Opera ??
1 - Well, what I like, especailly, is the TAB feature. Hype or no Hype,
you *really* gotta get a browser that supports this. BUT (bit but)
make sure it supports "shuffelling", so that you can open multiple
pages (tabs) and re-organize them at any place on the TAB bar.
Opera supports this, and I tell ya.. I can't live without it. I would
say, it's a must-have feature.. TAB's and Shuffeling, that is.
2 - Another must-have feature is the UNDO ( or, undeleting of tab(s) )
I've done this many times, and after learning about the undelete feature,
I never have to worry about accidently deleting a TAB. (I hate it when
you one of those D/L page, where it tricks you with pop-ups and what-not-
looking like pop-up stuff, and you're all-too-quickly at the draw, and
end up deleting that D/L page -- you know.., the one you really need
With the UNDO (located on Opera's tool bar, in the Edit menu),
the day is saved should the unexspected happen.
3 - Window expansion. I like this feature too. Press F11, and you
get a nice full size widnow of the web page. Press F11 again, and it restores
back to normal (or, last) view.
This feature comes in handy when you are reading those W I D E forums that
don't always conform to normal viewing width.
4 - Total Recal (another favorite movie) is a must-have feature. I
like it when I close down for the night (or a.m. hours) and the next day,
when I get back from a hard days work, and I lounch Opera (dial-up) all
my pages are recalled (restored) to their rightful place/possition and I
can continue where I left off. This is an auto feature, but during the
initial lounch, it offers other feature/params to select as well.
So, weather there is power outage or system crashes or you shut down for
the night, (all of which I experienced) Opera's recal feature is must-have
true treasure trove.

..who do we appreciate ?? I mean..
And the list goes on..
There's tons more feature-rich nonsence to be learnt in Opera, but I just
don't have the time to figure them all out.

Internet Explorer 7 vs. Firefox 2
This says it all
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7-6656808-1.html?tag=prmo1
a fun read,
Round 1: Installation woes
Round 2: Look and community
Round 3: Tabbed browsing
Round 4: Cool new features
Round 5: Security and performance
in the end The winner is...
Firefox 2
for me with 5 tabs open in both the use the amount of resourses -
in options what does the Feeds do? Ive noticed the same image next to the address bar.

I don't like it. To me it's like asking "PC or Mac ?", "Will XP SP2 really cripple my system ?", "-R or +R ?" or "Microsoft: Like or Hate ?" - there will always be opinions from both sides.
That said, I am resisting the upgrade to IE7 as I don't like Tabs - If I did I would keep glomming (grouping) turned on in Win XP and it does the same job.
Personally I don't buy all the BS about "better security" and all that. I think a large percentage of responsibility for security is on the user in the form of common-sense. It really gets my goat when people expect their computer to protect them against their own stupidity. If in doubt, Google it. -
I put all my clients onto Firefox. Realize that much Spyware/Malware is instantly downloaded through DirectX in MIE-Firefox is invisible to most of this form of attack (quite common, actually) because is does not use Direct X. In addition, you can very easily and quickly download all Windows XP service packs and updates throught FF. No cons, all pros.

That was my biggest complaint with tabbed browsing when I started but that was because I just wasnt used to it. Rarely happens now. -
I use firefox due to ms's unreliable updates and patch's ...
Every now and then , they send out an update that cause's more problem's than it solve's .
Last month it was a security update for ie ... and ie kept packing it in when I had more than 4 ie windows open ... when it exited ... it lost all history for that day ... nice pain in the butt , as I use that feature more than anything else .
This month an update completely screwed my ulead videostudio ... all filters corrupted , so it wont even run ... now I am ticked off .
Firefox come's with many valuable feature's , that should have been made a standard in ie ... year's ago ... multi tab's , download manager , and more .
Ie is now considered bloatware due to all the stupid addons ... I have seen pc's where 1/3 of the screen is lost to these things in the browser ... and you can barely see what it is you attempting to read because of all those rubbish addon's .
Really annoying when your the one fixing the pc ... -
I dragged my heels switching from IE to FF. After a fair amount of cajoling from friends, I finally did.
And glad.
The main reasons I like it better than IE:
1. It's not IE
2. Tabbed browsing
3. It's not IE
4. Add-ons from the Mozilla site to do almost anything, like IETabs for stubborn web pages.
5. It's not IE.
6. It's faster than IE.
7. It's not IE.
