I use virtualdubmod and subtitler plugin from avery lee to add subtitles to my favorite anime in japanese (to have english subs)

what i do is basically, convert the original file (mkv) to avi (divx encoding) using dr divx. then, demux the subtitle file (which comes out srt)

open subtitle workshop, open srt file and save as ssa

open virtualdubmod, add filter (ssa file), select compression, full processing, then save

before everything was working fine. but after a few weeks of not doing any hard coding, i tried it again but it doesnt work anymore. i cant see the subtitle in the output file

i checked the ssa file, subtitle workshop is having no problems opening it... there is also no sync problem

at this point, i thought maybe the problem was with the plugin so i installed vobsub (textsub). unfortunately, still the same problem. everything is fine until the part when i try to add the subtitle file. it seems virtualdubmod cant recognize the file anymore

i have no idea what happened as everything was working fine before

    nope.. no error message

just no subtitles on the output video

even as early as preview (on the filter option after loading the ssa file) the subtitles dont show already

    just figured it out

the problem was the frame size.. for some reason the subtitles dont work for those files with frame size of 480x368

but, strangely it works for the files with frame size of 576x432

im currently converting my existing 480x368 files to 576x432 and see if it solves the problem

    ----------
it now works with the converted file (now in 576x432 size)

i have no idea why it doesnt work on 480x368 but converting the files to 576x432 makes it work
