hi,
I currently use TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress to convert video (XVID).
There are so many different Video Resolution and Size/Quality. Can anyone give me a list of Resolution/Size/Quality that is acceptable/recommend.
Because I want to backup my Video, I want to keep my video quality as good with average size.
I heard somewhere people say 10mb per minute of video give good quality, I know this but which Resolution do I use?
NTSC
720 x 480
352 x 480
352 x 240
PAL
720 x 576
352 x 576
352 x 288
480 x480
So which one would suit for 10mb per minute of Xvid?
What about the rest of the Resolution, how many MB per minute should I use?
Any other Video resolution you Recommend?
I want to know the list because I got many video with different res/size.
Thank for reply.

With Xvid AVI you can use any frame sizes that are any multiple of 2. Multiples of 16 deliver the highest efficiency.
The bitrate required for any particular video varies. Shaky, noisy, handheld camcorder video will require more bitrate than a quiet, dark DVD source.
The smaller the frame, the lower the bitrate required to maintain quality.
The lower the frame rate, the lower the bitrate required.
The smaller you make the frame, the blurrier it will be when blown up to full screen.
You could just forget about bitrates and encode in Target Quantizer (constant quality) mode in Xvid. Select the quality you want (the lower the quantizer the higher the quality) and the codec will use whatever bitrate is needed to deliver that quality at every frame. You don't know beforehand how big the file will be though.
As a beginner, if you want files of a particular size (say 700 MB to fit on a CD), you should consider using AutoGK. It will examine your source and automatically pick the frame size and bitrate to match your desired file size.
