My hard disk crashed. So I have to reinstall everything. Now I am having audio problem. Tried to edit a video clip from DVD recorder with VirtualDubMod and frameserve to TMPGEnc. But TMPGEnc is unable to read the audio. Am I missing some audio decoder ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If the video came from a DVD recorder then most likely it has AC-3 audio.
For editing an MPEG-2 file with AC-3 audio it is advised you use MPEG2VCR or VideoReDo.
If you want to use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod then you would need to convert the audio to PCM WAV format for editing and then either leave it like that for the final DVD or re-convert back to AC-3 after editing.
Also make sure you install the following:
1.) AC3 Filter
2.) AC3 ACM Decompressor
If you do convert the audio to PCM WAV to edit with VirtualDub then you are better off using VirutalDubMod to edit then import the edits into an AviSynth script. You then import the AviSynth script directly into your encoder (aka TMPGEnc in your case) and bypass VirtualDubMod all together.
Here is a guide that covers that: CLICK HERE

P.S.
For MPEG-2 you would have to use DGMPGDec to create a D2V project file for the AviSynth file. I can give more info and a sample script if you feel up to it."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

Hi John,
Many Thanks.
Here is the long story. A friend of mine record his kids' school video in VR mode. Couldn't read it anywhere else except the recorder. This is all he has left with since he has already cleared his tape. I used ISO Buster and it dredges up everything. So, I used quick & dirty way, VirtualDubMod to trim away unwanted scene and frameserve to TMPGEnc. Author the DVD and that's his Christmas gift... will try install AC3 Filter and AC3 ACM Decompressor. Thanks agian. -
I can hear sound... yes... the audio problem is fixed with AC3 Filter and AC3 ACM Decompressor.
