  1. Hello everyone - Does anyone know of a company that offers pressed DVD service?

Time to time, I come across with some clients who are not able to play my DVD-R due to old DVD player that they have.

Any helpful info. will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    ozab,

The term you're looking for is "replication". "Duplication" refers to burned media. Using the magic phrase "replication service" in google will bury you in places that will provide the service.

There are a couple of things you might want to consider:

Replication is not for small amounts of disks. Typically, 1000 units is the smallest amount that can be ordered. Even if you can order less, the unit cost would be very high. Using NewCyberian as an example, replicating 500 disks currently costs $695.00 ($1.39/unit), while 1000 disks only costs $740.00 ($0.74/unit). If you go with a printed cover and an amarray case, it currently costs $1,415.00 for 500 ($2.83/unit), $1,540.00 for 1000 ($1.54/unit). Anything above 1000 units would only provide a small price break. For example @1000 units (just disks, no cover) is $0.74/unit, @2000 it's $0.71/unit.

By using good media, and offering both -R and +R (book type set to "DVD-ROM"), duplication produces a disk that is almost as compatible as one that was replicated. Since you only mention using -R for your product, you first might want to try offering a +R disk (book type set to "DVD-ROM") replacement/exchange if a customer has a playback problem.

  3. Hi Ozab

It may have alot to do with how you authored your disc.

    How long is your video
What bitrate did you use? VBR or CBR ?
Did you use AC3 Audio? - Very important!!
Which media brand did you use?

Just a thought before you do something rash!

  6. Eric - I have one more question. Lets say the DVD is made in VBR mode and PCM audio.

Now, If make a copy of that DVD with Nero. Does the same VBR and PCM audio settings get copied? Or it has diff. format now?

    Thanks!

PCM audio is about 700MB per hour. Your 2.25 hour video would use 1.6GB for audio alone. Do what the pooman suggests and use AC3 audio.

You're doing this professionally and you don't know this?
