Ripping is one thing. Encoding to DivX/XviD soemthing else.
DVDFabDecrypter + AutoGK would get my vote.

Ripping is simply getting the contents of a DVD to your hard drive minus any encryption. DVDDecrypter used to be king, but unfortunately it is no longer updated and the newer protections can cause issues. DVDFab Decrypter and/or Ripit4me are both free and are probably the two "must-haves" at the moment and should handle almost every DVD you throw at them. There are also many good reports about AnyDVD.

From the title of the post and the forum its in, its fair to assume that you weant to convert the ripped product to DivX or XVID. I like AutoGK, but AVI.NET and FairUse Wizard are both rated highly by many here. There's also a number of others such as Dr Divx and Simple Divx, but personally I didn't like them.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I use Dvd Decryp. and Avi.net and love it. I do get a errors when it ends but the files work fine. :dunno?? Would be nice if I could set it up to evcode more than one file but the errors stop the process.
