I recently purchased the Philips DVP5960 DVD player with the intention of connecting my SMARTDISK FIRELITE 80GB harddrive to it via the USB port to watch movies on it. This was anything but successful...After determining it would only read FAT32, I ended up buying a $70 piece of software to reformat my FIRELITE from NTFS to FAT32 (windows won't format drives to FAT32 if they are over 32 GB)...No luck...Still wouldn't read it...Then I read somewhere that it would only read hard drives that had external power sources (FIRELITE is powered solely through the USB connection), so I bought a MAXTOR drive from a friend...Another $60 down the drain cause it wouldn't work either. I called Philips and even they couldn't give me a list of hard drives that it would read...So back to the store it is going!

Now I am back to square one (well, minus like $140)...Does anyone know of a DVD player that DOES work? One that will play any (or at least most) external hard drives? Maybe even one that came with a list of compatible devices? I am at my wits end! Any help or direction in the matter would SOOOOO greatly be appreciated! Thanks!
