Hi, I'm new and really computer illiterate.

I have a dvd burner (a LG dual layer), and would genuinely like to backup some of my dvds.

Is there any single program soultion out there that will enable me to un-copy protect, compress and burn to a dvd in a reasonable amount of time.

I've had some sucess with freeware, but I don't want to have to three different programs in order to make a single dvd.

I'd love to find an all-in-one solution, and am quiete willing to pay for a non-freeware program.
What's avalible? would any of the burning programs at BestBuy or Office Depot work?

    -thanks

  2. Although it uses multiple programs, RipIt4Me automates them all into an almost 1-click solution.

I've been using it since it first came out with excellent results. And... it's FREE!

does that include ripit4me? Even though it uses several freeware tools for the process, it can act as a one click solution to what you want to do.

    sounds good!

I've just had a lot of issues with freeware in the past.
I figure a $ program from Best buy would be better/faster, and not have bugs or anything.

    ripit4me sounds good though.

where can I get DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0? and DVD Shrink v3.2.0.15?

when I google them, all the downloads for these programs have been taken down.

Because it is technically illegal to circumvent encryption and digital protection on DVDs in the US and many western countries, anything you buy off the shelf will only work with DVDs you have authored yourself. Some products can be bought on-line from countries like China (AnyDVD, for example), but the best tools are free.

Wrong. Commercial apps are made to make money (for the manufacturer/distributor/retailer). Free apps are made because someone wanted something done.
And commercial or not - there's no bug free application in existance.

If you want quality and speed try CCE Basic ( 60.00), DVDRebuilder Pro (30.00) or freeware version ( many less features) along with Ripit4me and VOB Blanker and IMG_Burn

I have a dual core AMD 64 X2 4200+ and this combination is as fast/or faster than Shrink with improved results. You can keep more of the disk and have better quality even though I use "Movie and Menus only" most of the time. When you get the occasional ILVU just do a "Full Disk" and the quality is still there.

Using the above I can usually get a finished back-up in anywhere to an hour up to less than two hours (94 min full disk the longest at this time)

Forgot to mention that DVD-RB Will even burn the files with IMG-Burn in Fiile or ISO mode

If you put specific details into your profile, I could tell you if this is very wrong or only a little bit wrong. pentium something isn't very helpful. On a newer P4 or core2duo you would get realtime or better transcoding. On an old pentium 1 you might take 10 hours.

Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. The first tab displayed should tell you what your CPU is.

I use RipIt4Me to a modified version of DVD Shrink that uses ImgBurn automatically to burn. The modified Shrink and ImgBurn are linked here: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=63869 The combination works very well with any DVD and it's all freeware.

If I just use Shrink without RipIt4Me, it takes about 30 - 40 minutes average with just the main movie, including burning to DVD. I have a AMD AM2 2.1Ghz CPU with 1G DDR2 RAM. I only use RipIt4Me with the newer encryptions.

10 hours is way out of whack for your machine. Something else is at play here.

It is a bit of an ask to run XP in 256mb or less unless you forgo things like firewalls, anti-virus software, anti-spyware software and pretty much anything else that stays resident. Double it and see what happens
