    Video noob, but quick learner...

What is the best format/settings to optimize my video camera vids for youtube. YouTube mentions divx.

Do I start with MPEG-2 capture (through composite connection) then convert to DIVX then upload?

What converter and settings should I use to make my youTube vids sharp and crisp.

    Thanks,
    Kevin C

You can upload the mpeg2 directly,
Here are our preferred video specs:
NTSC (4:3) size and framerate, deinterlaced
    Video Codec: MPEG2 or MPEG4 (MPEG4 preferred)
Video Bitrate: at least 260Kbps (750kbps preferred)
    Audio Codec: MP3 vbr
Audio Bitrate: at least 70Kbps (128 Kbps preferred)

but if it's huge it gonna take some hours to upload. Then you can reconvert to DivX, use for example autogk, use a low resolution like 320x240 if you source is interlaced to avoid interlace artifacts.

YouTube uses RIVA FLV natively on their site. You can get the free encoder and player here:

    http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?downloads&L=3

Scroll down and the last two apps are the ones you want

I never tried. It works OK on MPEG 1 & 2, though. Maybe you can convert it first?

I've got over 30 vids on YouTube. I've used both Xvid and RIVA FLV Encoder before uploading and neither produce consistant results. I've used DVD source material via Xvid that ended up crappy looking and SVCD quality source material run through RIVA turn out spectacular.
    I just use RIVA now.

X.264 is an early MP4 codec. x64 is 64-bit Windows XP
