Some of my movies(avi) wont display picture when played on philips dvp5960 just sound.Instead i get the message "video resolution not supported"These files looked deformed on my old 640 model but there was picture, here none.I thought that a newer model would have no problem with these files. Is there a way to fix it thx

Many (most?) AVI players don't support resolutions > 720 wide.
You'll have to reencode it down in frame size.

I just played another file at native resolution of 576 x 320 and the player stretched it up/down.My dvp 640 played it fine why is that the newer model does that??

Try using MPEG4Modifier to change the DAR to 16:9. That will tell the player to display it with a 16:9 aspect ratio and you won't have to reencode it. I'm pretty sure the 5960 responds to the DAR flag.
