I authored some DVDs using DVD Lab Pro. These DVDs have 1 VTS and several Movies (about 5-10) on them. When I play them on my computer using Media Player Classic and after pressing the play all button on my main menu, I can press the "next chapter" button and I am able to progress through each movie's chapters and then on to the next movie.
However, when I put the disc into my standalone player (Insignia), and try the same thing, I can only progress through the current movie's chapters. The player does not let me progress to the next movie. (a little symbol shows up on teh screen when I try to do that letting me know the player won't let me skip to the next movie by hitting the next chapter button).
Moreover, when I play the same DVD in a Sony brand DVD standalone player, I am able to skip to the next movie by pressin the next chapter button.

--So how do I fix this? I would like to be able to hit "next chapter" and progress through each movie's chapters and each movie on all players. Is there a setting I am missing in DVD Lab Pro?
    Thanks for any help.

The Next button is programmed by default to go to the next chapter only. Software players often have flexibility that standalones do not have.

    You have three choices here

    1. Use VM commands to change how your Next button works. You can use this to change the Next chapter to be Next title, but then you lose Next chapter for that disc.

    2. Combine all your movies into one so you only need a Next chapter button

    3. Add a chapter point at the very end of each video so when you hit next chapter you only have a frame or two and the next movie starts. This is the simplest solution to implement in your case.

Awesomely quick response. Quality too. Unless I hear a better idea (that isn't too complicated), I'll probably just stick a chapter point at the end of each movie. Not the "cleanist" DVD navigation, but should work for my project.
It seems odd that the next chapter button on all players aren't able to do this. Dvd players and the way they operate just seems odder and odder the more I learn. Almost needlessly complicated.

    Thanks again for the help.

It's clear to me - Next Chapter means Next Chapter, not Next Title. Chapters are navigation markers in a single title, you have separate titles.

  5. I'm not at my own pc, so I'm going off the top of my head here. Go to the connections screen and right click on the movie. There is a setting called UOM settings or something like that. There is an option that will be checked saying strictly adhere to DVD standards. Uncheck that. You'll see a dropdown thing on teh right for what happens when you push teh next or previous buttons. On the next button action choose follow link to next chapter or movie. For previous choose follow to previous chapter or movie. Also, on the connections menu make sure to draw the connections in the order you want things to go.

The wording will be a little different than what I'm telling you, but you should get the point. If you are still having problems I can help you tonight when I'm at home. Drop me a line if so:

you can use PGCEdit to fix this cleanly....either double click the pgc (movie) in the PGCEdit window and on the nextpgcn variable choose the next movie (next pgc), or have pgcedit create a dummy 0 sec. cell at the end of the movie, with restricted access and use vm commands to jump to next title

  7. There's no need to use another program. It is just a setting in DVD Lab that needs to be selected. The program does not default the next button action to playing the next movie. You just need to tell it what to do. Using another program is wasting time and energy. DVD Lab takes some time to learn teh ins and outs.

  9. Then why are you suggesting to use another program and consume more time to make a fix that's not necessary. Set the options in DVD Lab and there won't be any problems.

On the Connections window, right-click and select UOPS and Settings. On the dialogue that opens, un-tick Strictly Adhere to DVD-3 4.2.5 (or similar). You can now change the behavior of the Next button using the drop down list. You need to be aware of two things. One - this may not work on all players, and Two, it may stop you from skipping chapters. Test carefully using an RW first.

Well I think the point that ron spencer is trying to make is pgcedit works on already-authored dvd's. If the op already has it compiled he can just import it into pgcedit then make the changes from there, instead of recompiling it in dvdlab pro again. Although they do have a smart compile option in the newer versions that only does the changes. But it's an alternative option one can do if the files are already deleted and all you have is the authored dvd.

pgcedit is a must...not sure if stantheman knows what it is for LOL!!!

DVDLab will NOT make things as neat as if you add a cell or change the nextpgcn....especially if the last chapter is not an I-frame.
