  1. to make a long story short i have a dvi cord already and because of multiple **** ups by my cable company looks like im gonna have to use the hdmi hd box. My question is if i buy a dvi to hdmi CONNECTOR for the dvi cord i already have will it take the quality of the picture down a notch like componet cables when they are hooked up?????

IIRC the only difference between DVI and HDMI is that the audio is incorporated into the HDMI cable. Don't you have to plug an audio source in the DVI-HDMI cable as well as the DVI video source (or vice-versa)?

HDMI has a slightly different voltage than DVI , but SHOULD be compatible .. but ive seen with bell and rogers boxes that using a converter will cause certain flat panels and projectors to not lock up (handshake) - thus no picture ....

mostly with certain epsons, hitachi and sharp tvs or projectors ..
