Converting from TiVo with ffmpeg

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this. I have purchased myDVD Premier 8 to convert my Tivo shows to DVD. I have moved the Tivo shows to my WinXP PC. When I try and use myDVD I get an error 80040227. Sonic is no help. I read that using ffmpeg works but when I try using gui4ffmpeg/ffmpeg, I receive an error Cannot find codec parameters. Has anybody used ffmpeg to successfully convert the tivo file? Does anyone know what the cannot find codec parameters error means?

Not having any better luck with tytool. I don't neccessarily want to hack into the tivo box. I have the tivo files on my PC via tivo's transfer tool. Tytools want me to install it's software on the tivo box and I'm not comfortable doing that yet. It is the 3rd piece of software that I've tried that doesn't work. Has anyone used ffmpeg to convert a tivo file on a windows xp machine? What are codecs? Do I need to install them first?

Run your TIVO transfers on your PC through Direct Show Dump Utility. http://prish.com/etivo/tbr.htm This will allow you to use other apps (e.g., TDA) to edit out commericals and author your transfers.

Running your transfers through Direct Show Dump may also solve your codec problem but even if it doesn't your TIVO transfers are now free to be processed through apps of your choosing.
