Ok, I got this thing about 2 days ago... and when I go to the Mpeg tools to merge&cut. When I edit a clip and select the starting and end points I get a little error message (although it doesnt affect me joining the two clips together at all, just annoying)

Now, here is my BIG PROBLEM. I cant join some mpegs because they aren't compatible. I looked at the TMPEGEncoder homepage and it says some stuff needs to be the same... well, is there ANY other program similar to Tmpegencoder that will change the files for me so i can join any mpeg (not expecting this)...OR a program that will let me change these properties so i can join them with other mpegs finalls.... PLEASE HELP, THANKS

You can only join 2 MPEGs, that have same resolution, same bitrates, same everything. If they are different you have to reencode one.

Use TMPG to encode. Have a look at the "how to.." section. I am pretty sure, you will find a guide how to convert to MPEG.

no no... i know how to encode .avi to .mpeg, etc, but when i try to join the files (both being mpegs) it says they are incompatible, im guessing from the incorrect bit rate and all that, how do i change the bit rate, resolution, etc, so i can join them all?

Yes, reencode one of these mpegs with TMPG. You can load a MPEG-1 into TMPG directly. If it is a MPEG-2, create a dvd2avi project and load that as video source.
You can change the bit rate, resolution, etc by reencoding only.

    hmmm, guess not.... ugh

Here is what im dealing with

    File "X"
    File "Y"
    File "Z"

X and Y are the two files I want to join, but they are incompatible.

    X = MPEG-1 320x240 30fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps

    Y = MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps

(Thats what TMPG says on the bottom when I load the video and audio source)

Ok, so I went to settings and changed the resolution and FPS and then started to rencode.

I then got file "Z" (the new form of file "Y&quot

    So then both Z and X were at = MPEG-1 320x240 30fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps

yet, still they are incompatible and i cant join them....

ugh, whats wrong? was i supposed to change file X to become like like Y (i changed file Y to become like X , so Y re-encoded is Z) sorry if this is confusing.. but ah, what did i do wrong?

I don't kind of understand, you gotta be more specific, im a newbie.

    Here it what I understood...

1 - Click on browse and select the movie I want.
2 - Click on load and choose the VideoCD(NTSC).mcf
3 - Click start, wait til done encoding.
4 - Click on file and go to MPEG TOOLS> then Merge & Cut
5 - "where it says what type of stream says NTSC VCD"
couldn't understand... I think you meant under TYPE: .. but the closest thing I found was *Mpeg-1 Video CD*
6 - Click run and enjoy.... didnt work though, still got an incompatible....

    Argh...

So what I still need to know...

How to change the stuff, and what exactly, i need to change to make it compatible

How i know WHEN to choose the stuff (like templates when u brought that up.. i didnt even use it before...) how do I know which file to change, like leave X and change Y, how come i dont leave y and change x ?

Help is GREATLY appreciated.. remember im still very new to this.

Both files are not VCD compliant. However, to join them, they must be identical only.
File "Y" come close to the VCD standard, but the audio bitrate is different. If you reencode "X" using the VideoCD(NTSC) template, it will have a audio bitrate 224kbps.
    To do list:
1] Reencode both files (choose each time the VideoCD(NTSC) template.
    or
    2]Keep "Y". Reencode "X".
1 - Click on browse and select "X"
2 - Click on load and choose the VideoCD(NTSC).mcf
2a- Click on load and choose the unlock.mcf
2b- Click on setting > audio, change bitrate from 192 to 224
3 - Click start, wait til done encoding.
4 - Click on file and go to MPEG TOOLS> then Merge & Cut
    5 - choose TYPE:*Mpeg-1 Video CD*
    5a- add "Y" and "Z"
5b- choose a output directory and filename
6 - Click run and enjoy
7 - This .mpg file will not be VCD compliant. You can burn it as VCD anyway, but actually it is XVCD, that is not playable on all dvd players.>>>>>>go back to 1]

A template is a textfile, that contains all encoder settings. Open it with notepad and you will see.
