    Hi all,

I am tying to make a mixed DVD compilation with various clips and scenes. However, I find I can only fit about 5 to 6 15-minute scenes on one DVD (single layer). I've seen DVDs with up to 15 to 20 scenes/clips 7 to 8 minutes long. My question is, should I be using Duel layer DVD disks, or is there a way I can compressed these files so that more can fit on the DVD?

If I need a compression tool, please let me know good ones I can use--free or ones I can purchase.

    Thanks

    Ron

Whatever software you used the bitrate setting was too high. If you want an all-in-one solution try ConvertXtoDVD, it's very easy to use, just drag and drop your files - it's that simple.

  4. 5-6 15-minute clips will not fit on a single-layer DVD at maximum bitrate, you can only get 60-65 minutes that way. So reduce your MPEG2 encoding bitrate appropriately for the total duration of the material involved. To get 20 8-minute clips to fit on a single-layer DVD, that's 160 minutes, divide that into the size of a single-layer DVD (minus some overhead for authoring and VOB multiplexing):

    4,500,000,000 bytes / 160 minutes = 3,750Kb/s

But yeah, one of the "all-in-one" DVD authoring applications that lets you drop your files on it and it does the rest might be best if you are not comfortable calculating bitrates.
