  1. I have a video file of type *.avi

The video is xvid, while the audio is ac3. Unfortunately, my PMP doesn't support ac3 (without paying extra), so I would like to convert the audio to a different format. Can this be done? The guides I've found on this webpage seem to only deal with ripping audio from the video. However, I want to keep them together.

    TIA

  2. Virtualdubmod can do it. However, you must have an mp3 codec like lame installed. First, go to video and make sure direct stream copy is selected so that the video is not reencoded. Then go to streams---> stream list. Right click and then select full processing mode. Right click again and then select Compression. Select the lame mp3 codec and your encoding options. 128 khz CBR is good enough. Then go to file...save as....blah blah blah and wait.
