    Hi

We bought a samsung hr-738 recently, and i tried to use the usb on it. It works fine except for one thing. When i connect a usb drive to it that has a video file in dvd format, it doesn't recognise it.
MP3 and DivX works fine, but it won't do anything with the dvd format (it holds the necessary vob, bup and ifo files).
The machine has an internal harddisk which it can use to store and play dvd's without problems and it stores them in mpeg-2 format (which i believe normal dvd's are stored in as well)
Any ideas as to why the player won't recognise my movie? and even better, any ideas how to fix it?

    thanks in advance

This probably has to do with digital rights management. At least in Germany, you can not copy every DVD onto the hard drive. DRM protected media won't goes without saying, but not even if they have been ripped; and two DVD-R-Video onto which a friend had burnt some previously recorded TV shows for me cannot be copied onto the hard drive of my unit either.

Consider yourself lucky you that your external USB drive is recognized - mine isn't!

Not even if I only install a single primary 12 GB FAT32 partition on it.

And that is a Samsung hard drive we're talking about...

Customer support says "The devices with which the USB port communicates flawlessly are listed on page 12 of the manual. As our hard drive is not among them, we cannot guarantee it will work."

    Duh!
    Regards
