.rm to .avi conversion adding 13 hours of white on the end of my video

Hi,
I haven't been able to find a similar problem on the forum, and I am hoping somebody else has experienced this also and can share some wisdom.

I have been using ffmpegX without incident to convert .rm files to .avi files, but one of my videos repeatedly comes out of the conversion with a duration of about 14 hours -- the 44 minute video that I want, followed by endless white screen. If I play the .avi in QTPro, it is 14 hours long, but if I import it to Final Cut, it is only the 44 min. that it should be...seems to make Final Cut crash though.

to .AVI (DiVX) MPEG4 [.AVI] (mencoder) 400x264, 3:2 aspect ratio, 24 fps, 48/128 audio
