    Hi,
I have used magic iso (trial version) to get the dvd structure from iso files on my pc. then select all the dvd video files and drag them to either Realplayer or MS media player. This works, BUT I end up with invisible files on my system harddrive.
The files are seemingly inaccessible and take up gigs of space!
I have tried changing preferences for all the apps involved, but there seems to be no
    change.
If anyone can ‘splain me what is happening
and what I can do—I’d be mightily grateful!
    thanks,
    patwig

I have no knowledge of that program but DVD authoring requires lots of space for intermediate temp files. Most programs give you a preference where to place these multi GB temp files. Best to put them on a separate drive from the OS.

Assuming you have a compatible MPeg2 file the remaining steps are still to

    - convert audio and multiplex into VOB, IFO, BUP
    - convert VOB, IFO, BUP to a DVD disk image
    - burn the DVD

Those conversions would require ~ 10GB temp space. Creation of the MPeg2 file would take ~ 5GB more.

    thanks eddv,
I have ISO files from Dvd shrink and am just trying to play them on my pc. But something
odd happens with files piling up on my hard drive, yet not being accessible to delete. Can't
even find 'em...just see that my Documents size is way bigger each time I try to take these files from magic iso to media player.
    Hope I'm making sense?

Oh, I have to update my profile.
    meanwhile,
I now have system XP Pro.

If they are 'invisible', then they may be in a hidden file folder. Access any folder, then 'Tools>Folder Options>View', then check 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'. Then you should be able to see them. You can sometimes find them with a search for files recently written or files over a certain size, even without changing the folder options. You can set the search to look in hidden folders.

They are probably in one of your 'Documents and Settings' folders. If you make the hidden folders visible, you can check their sizes. Or maybe in one of the program folders that are doing your conversions.

It is unusual that any of those programs would leave large temp files hanging around. You may have other problems, like your OS not freeing up space after deleting files. You might try a defrag and run error checking on your hard drive.

    Yes!
I was trying to make the files visible thru views. (not tools).
I found the files, and they were magic iso files. When I deleted them I had plenty of
room to do what I had previously attempted.
Then, when finished viewing, there was no sign of the
build up of old temp files. Things back to normal.
I think that once the temp files max out the space in the partition, they don’t automatically delete.

    Thanks so much

You can use other application that doesn't create temporary files but just mounts your disc image to virtual drive (e.g. free Daemon Tools) making it behave like a physical DVD. You can also extract VIDEO_TS folder using WinRAR (it supports ISO images, free trial should work) or UltraISO (almost any image type).

Magic Iso has program that goes with it called Magic disc which creates a virtual drive not unlike Deamon tools so you can mount your iso's and play them like a normal dvd.I bought the program a week or so ago but havn't had the time to play about with it.
