    HI

This is my first time doing this. Everytime i use VirtualDubMod to convert a .mkv to .avi[XviD] i have no sound in Windows Media PLayer 11.

    1) mkv supports audio formats that avi doesn't, more so with VDubMod since it can't mux aac or vorbis to avi.
    2) If converting, VDubMod uses ACM to process audio and there aren't decoders available for all formats supported by mkv.

To play them, install a splitter (Haali's or Gabest's) and decoders for the contained streams, then you can play them back in any dshow based player or use a player with built in decoders/splitters like mplayer.

Identify the audio codec in the mkv with latest gspot. Then install that codec, latest ffdshow tryouts supports most audio formats.

    Thanks Baldrick,

ffdshow solved the problem! I have sound in Windows Media Player. The video codec was XviD and the audio codec was AAC.

    Thanks all,
