hi ppl good day. Sorry im new here. I try to search around and could not find a best answer to it.

I have a few video under RMVB and i have convert them to AVI. But the AVI file size is too big. 2 file already take up the whole DVD disk of 4.7GB.

Im using WinAVi. Anyone can advise me on how to get to a small file size?

could it be my avi encoder? if yes which you recommend me to use?

    Thank You

  2. it all depends. We need more details.

When you're using the AVI converter, What do you have your compression set to for your video output?

AVI is just a container and the codec that you use to compress it is your formate. Other than that, there are better programs out there to use to convert. Yeah, they might cost some money but there worth it. I use HT MPEG Encoder 6.0 and it helps big time. The problem with AVI is that there are so many codecs out there for AVI. There are only a few Codecs (Compressors) that will bring down the file size.
If you're going to use this file for DVD, you should look for a MPEG-2 (Layer 2) because that's what DVD Burning Programs use when there being burn.

Check your AVI converter and let us know what comression you're using.

    Cheers

Filesize = running time x combined bitrate.

You normally can't change the running time, so you must decrease the bitrate. If WinAVI doesn't allow you to custom set the bitrate, then you may need to look at using a different tool.
    If in doubt, Google it.
